Timber Express 2022 – SDoT Cross Domain Solutions enable tactical data links

TIMBER EXPRESS is a multinational exercise at Jagel air base of the German Air Force with a focus on tactical data exchange and data fusion which has been supported by INFODAS in recent years. The main objective of the exercise is to enable all land, air and sea based systems to receive and exchange data in real time to improve defensive and offensive capabilities. Data is among others exchanged via Link 11, 16, 22 for real-time Air-C2 pictures. TIMBER EXPRESS tries to test the boundaries of the U.S. Department of Defense’s (DoD) “Joint All-Domain Command & Control (JADC2)” vision via tactical data links. SDoT Cross Domain Solutions (CDS) enable controlled data exchange between systems and international partners up to GEHEIM / SECRET.

Soldiers from Germany and other NATO Member States work side by side with IT and defense industry experts. They test new scenarios on operational systems and those about to be deployed or plan future projects. Data was exchanged, provided or sanitized among a multiple nodes such as the Eurofighter, Tornado ECR, P3C Orion anti-submarine and maritime surveillance aircraft, Sea Lynx ASW, Tiger, drones, Joint Terminal Attack Controllern (JTAC), frigates, air defense systems or the public cloud.
